Mission Statement:Our goal is to serve the public by managing county elections as efficiently as possible, and to reach out to every qualified voter in our county and enable them to cast their ballot in a friendly and informative environment.

The Elections Department is the operating arm of the Board of Supervisors fulfilling the responsibilities of election administration.

Duties of the Elections Department include: issues and accepts all candidate, recall and initiative/referendum petitions; issues and accepts all campaign finance forms; establishes election precinct boundaries; provides for the printing of all election related material; secures use of facilities for election day polling places; recruits, hires, trains and compensates poll workers; prepares, allocates and transports election materials to and from polling places; prepares and tests ballot tabulation equipment; tabulates ballots; provides election results.

The County is responsible for coordinating and administering Primary and General elections. Mohave County also enters into intergovernmental agreements with the City of Bullhead City, the City of Kingman, the City of Lake Havasu City, the school districts and other special districts to conduct elections for local office holders and bond issues. Major elections are held on even numbered years for state, county and federal office, schools, fire districts, community colleges and precinct committee persons. Other elections are held on odd numbered years. There are four (4) consolidated election dates in Arizona: The second Tuesday in March; the third Tuesday in May; the eighth Tuesday before the first Tuesday after the first Monday in November; the first Tuesday after the first Monday in November. All jurisdictions are required to hold elections on consolidated election dates.

Candidates for office must circulate petitions and gather the required number of signatures to have their name placed on the primary ballot. The nominating petitions for county offices are submitted to the Elections Department, for State offices to the Secretary of State, for school offices to the Superintendent of School and for city offices to the City Clerk's Office.

Any changes to the precinct lines, the voter district lines or election procedures must be reviewed and approved by the United States Justice Department.

SOME FACTS ON VOTING:
