The mission of the Mohave County Attorney’s Office is:
To conduct the prosecution of all felony offenses within the County and the prosecution of misdemeanors in the unincorporated areas. Advise law enforcement agencies and the grand jury. Assist crime victims and witnesses. Represent County government and its agencies, school districts, fire departments, and other public agencies.

In each of Arizona’s 15 counties, a County Attorney is elected to handle numerous criminal and civil legal responsibilities with a four-year term of office.

Matt Smith was recommended by former Mohave County Attorney Bill Ekstrom in December of 2003, and unanimously selected by the Mohave County Board of Supervisors to fill out Ekstrom’s unexpired term.  Matt is a graduate of the University of Arizona with a J.D., 1985 and Gannon University in Erie, Pennsylvania with a B.A. in Political Science, 1982.  He moved to Kingman in 1987.  He is married and he and his wife, Margaret have two daughters.  Matt began his legal career as a prosecutor with the Mohave County Attorney’s Office 17 years ago and served the community as head of the felony trial division for the last 7 years.  As County Attorney he supervises an office of 21 prosecutors and 5 civil deputies.  He continues to do trial work and specializes in handling death penalty and child molestation cases.

The County Attorney is an elected official serving a four-year term.
